Description
This print is taken from a 17th century wood carving from the artist Hans Holbein the Younger’s “Dance of Death” series. The print serves as a “Memento Mori,” meaning “Remember Death” in Latin, and is meant to depict that death spares no one. Memento mori is the medieval theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits.
In this print, titled “The Pedlar,” a peddler is accompanied by his dog and heavy laden. Proceeding on his way, he is interrupted by Death, who forcibly pulls him back. Another Death is behind them and playing on a trump-marine.
Screen printed 100% cotton t-shirt. Water-based environmentally friendly ink.
